From Here to Health

My journey back from autoimmune disease

January 27th, 2013

Last night was the best night’s sleep I have had since starting the thyroid med.  I went to sleep about 10:15 and awoke at 6:00.  I would have preferred longer, but still good.  No major exercising, but I did take a short morning walk while I finished up the season finale of Parenthood.  I LOVE that show.  The Braverman’s are awesome.  I love that I cry in EVERY episode.  It’s one of those good kind of cries.  Cleansing.  I also took another walk in the afternoon because the sun started to shine and I wanted to be out in it.  I strapped on my iPOD and listened to an old Balanced Bites Podcast.  I’m going back to the beginning and listening to the old episodes- today was #3.  I am integrating more of Liz Wolfe’s recommendations.  The whole family had Lewis Labs Brewer’s Yeast on their dinner tonight.  Along with sauerkraut.  All 3 of the kids ate it!  Awesome!!!  Next thing to try it going to be sardines.  I’m really not looking forward to it, but I am really feeling committed to getting my nutrients through as much real food as possible and it seems like a good way to get omega 3s.  Other than that, it was a pretty low key day. Oh, yeah, did I mention I am reading the Primal Connection? I am only about half way through, but I love it!  It’s not really new information for me, but it is from a different perspective and I love that.  I often find that it takes hearing something multiples times in multiple ways before it really gets ingrained in your psyche.  I highly recommend it.

January 25th-26th, 2013

I had to work Friday and Saturday night so I didn’t get to my post.  We had a couple of light seminars.  They went well, but not nearly the attendance we hoped for.  I have to try not to worry too much about that.  I have to keep believing that the people that need to be there will be there and let go of the rest.  Something else I am trying not to worry about is a rumor I was informed of last night.  Apparently since about last October, there has been a rumor going through the company that my friend and I had a 3 way with one of our male seminar speakers! Yes, you read that right.  Apparently, he told some young guys in the company this in scathing (imaginary) detail and it has spread throughout the whole community.  I’m not sure how it took so long to get back to us, but it did.  Last night I had to call our CEO and tell her that there was absolutely NO truth in that.  Not only have I not had a sexual relationship with this man, but I haven’t even had a bawdy conversation with this man!  We have never really talked about anything that didn’t involve light, energy, medicine, health, etc.  I am in a weird place now of not wanting to give this situation a lot of my energy, but also not wanting people that I have a relationship with to question my integrity.  Besides, if I ever have a 3 way it will be with Adam Levine and Channing Tatum;)

In other news, the thyroid med is going well.  I didn’t sleep super good the first night, but it has improved steadily since then.  I started using the “No Poo” hair cleansing method this morning.  I have to admit that I am nervous about it.  I am afraid it will be a greasy, limp disaster, but I am committing to 2 full weeks per Liz Wolfe’s recommendation.  I started doing pull-ups without a band again.  Not dead hang, but when we are kipping during a WOD.  I did them on Friday and it was hard, but not crazy hard.  I think that is about it for now, but will check back in tonight for the days update.

January 23rd, 2013

I didn’t feel as good today as I have been, but it was still a good day.  I think it’s due to the fact that it has been taking me longer to get to sleep the past couple of nights and I have been waking up really early.  I actually like waking up early, but it would be helpful if I could go to sleep earlier.  I am going to do my best to stop reading at 10:00 tonight.  I tend to get involved in whatever I am reading and then look up and it’s 11:30!

Went to CrossFit this morning.  I am loving lifting lighter weights but having great form.  I think this is really the way for me to go right now.  I also did another outdoor walk today.  I have just been loving sucking up the sun this week.  It’s probably not enough to really be giving me much vitamin D, but it still seems to help my mood.  My kids rode their bikes and scooters while I walked and listened to my Balanced Bites podcast.  I’m totally in love with Diane and Liz!  One day I want to be doing some version of what they are doing.

I had pesto shrimp zucchini pasta tonight and half an apple and so far no belly bloat.  Two nights in a row!  Super happy about that.  The recipe was from Practical Paleo and my boys loved it! Two bowls each!!  I’m always excited when they eat dinner.  My daughter, however, picked out her shrimp and left the rest:(

I start my Armour Thyroid tomorrow morning!  Will be blogging about how I am adjusting to that.

Virgin Diet Update

Thought I would check in (mostly with myself) to update the results of my Virgin Diet experience.  I am not really sure what day I am on.  I did a full week of the 2 shakes a day before Christmas, then I took Christmas Day and the day after off.  I started back on the 27th so I guess that makes this Day 11 since I really considered it a start over.  I finally got up the courage to get on the scale.  Since I’m not really sure where I started, I don’t know how much I have lost, but it is probably around 4 pounds.  I feel like I need to lose more, but I’m not obsessing over it because I feel better.  I am sleeping better, my digestion is improving (more on that in a minute), my energy is better and my mind is clearer.  When I first started the Virgin Diet it messed with my digestion.  I was gassy and a little constipated.  I think it was adding all that fiber.  I also had some reflux (although that was there before the diet).  I started doing some research and I ended up putting prunes in my shake and taking bitters and DGL before meals and it has helped tremendously.  I think I needed these products before the diet, but I just wasn’t in the mode to go and search them out.  I am also back at CrossFit after a month off and it feels great!  I am only going 3 days a week for the month of January and I’m only pushing to about 70%.  I still don’t have my thyroid regulated so I don’t really feel like it is smart to push it any harder until that is more stable.  My doc is putting my on Armour thyroid, but he hasn’t started it yet.  All in all, feeling better and feeling hopeful.  Here’s to a Happy New Year!
